Our Services
Family Birth Center
At our state-of-the-art Family Birth Center, we focus on family-centered care. We combine the conveniences and comfort of home with the expert care of top-notch medical professionals. We understand that each woman who enters our Birthing Center has unique wishes about having her baby. It is our goal to give each woman and her family support and care in a homelike, relaxed atmosphere, making the birthing experience a wonderful lifetime memory.
Our birthing rooms are specially designed for privacy and togetherness. We offer Jacuzzi tubs, birthing balls, massage, music and other techniques to help alleviate the discomforts of labor. We recommend that all expectant moms attend our prepared childbirth series, the only one of its kind in the area, taught by a Certified Childbirth instructor. You and your support person will learn many topics to aid you through the labor process. We also offer a wide variety of classes to prepare you for your new arrival.
From the moment you arrive, we provide you with many comforts of home. Our rooms are equipped with special beds, cable TV, VCR’s and a sleeper chair. We offer coffee, juices, snacks and a microwave in the patient kitchen area. All new parents receive a “snack bag” filled with nutritious treats to eat while in the hospital and go home with a special dinner basket designed to make dinner the first night home an easy one.
We often hear from patients how special our obstetrics nurses are. Trained in neonatal resuscitation, perinatal care and breastfeeding, they are experts in all aspects of obstetrics and newborn care. We are proud that more than half of our nurses are certified in their specialty.
Because the birth of a new baby is a very special blessing, we herald each new arrival with the “Brahms Lullaby” played on the hospital’s public address system. The entire hospital can rejoice in a new birth.
We work with the Web Nursery to provide an opportunity to put your newborn’s photo and information online for family and friends. Click here to visit the Web Nursery.
Breastfeeding has been recognized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the most important factors in protecting an infant’s health.
Culpeper Regional Hospital Family Birth Center is the first hospital in Virginia to be designated as a “Baby Friendly Hospital”. The award is presented by UNICEF and the World Health Organization to “Baby Friendly” hospitals that protect, support, and promote breastfeeding. Click here to learn more about the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative.
The benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and infant are well reported in medical literature and recognized by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The nursing staff in the Family Birth Center is trained to help you breastfeed your baby. Each nurse completes an 18-hour breastfeeding course within six months of hire. They also receive a minimum of three hours of hands-on education from the lactation consultants. The obstetricians and pediatricians also take a breastfeeding course specially designed for them. Even our Birth Registrar and Obstetrical Technicians receive breastfeeding education to help you and your baby get off to a good start.
In addition to the excellent care and support you will receive from your nurses and physicians, International Board Certified Lactation Consultants are available to assist you.
A Special Delivery Gift Service is available to surprise that new mom in your life! Order the perfect gift for your loved one, and it will be waiting for them in their room soon after the baby arrives.
We offer post-discharge breastfeeding support through our Lactation Center, where you and your baby may receive additional support, education and assistance.
The Lactation Program provides comprehensive professional services to nursing mothers, their babies, and families, before and after birth. Our Certified Lactation Consultants schedule private meetings by appointment. They listen to breastfeeding concerns, assess the issues and make appropriate recommendations that enable you and your baby to have a positive and treasured experience. We also rent and sell Medela breast pumps, parts, specialty feeding devices, and nursing pillows, and perform professional bra fittings.
