Clinical Quality Measures

Giving consumers the hospital quality data they need to make informed decisions is part of the quality transparency initiative. This nationwide effort comes as a result of a very high level of consensus among healthcare providers and quality experts that quality measures relate directly to improved health outcomes for patients.

Hospital Compare is a consumer-oriented website that provides information on how well hospitals provide recommended care to their patients. On this site, you can see the recommended care that an adult should get if being treated for a heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia or surgery. This website was created through the efforts of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Hospital Quality Alliance, a public-private collaboration that includes organizations that represent hospitals, doctors, employers, accrediting organizations, other federal agencies and the public. Each standardized and easy-to-understand “core measure” for recommended care has been developed carefully through evidence-based medicine and is consistently measured.

The Joint Commission is the organization that surveys and accredits more than 15,000 healthcare organizations in the United States. To those hospitals found to deliver safe, quality care to their patients, The Joint Commission grants accreditation, which is a symbol of quality and the “housekeeping gold seal of approval” for healthcare organizations. Culpeper Regional Hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission. On The Joint Commission web site, you can learn about their process of accreditation. You can also find information through their “Quality Check” service, a site that allows visitors to search for healthcare facilities by name or region and compare hospitals on key quality indicators.
