Insurance & Billing

Your Insurance

You should be certain that you are familiar with the terms of your insurance coverage. This will also help you understand the hospital bills for your care and treatment.

Health Insurance Coverage

If you have health insurance, please bring a copy of your insurance card/information to the hospital when you are admitted. Based on the extent of your coverage and deductible amounts, you will be asked to pay a deposit. You will also be asked to assign benefits from your insurance company directly to the hospital.

Medicare

If you are covered by Medicare, please bring a copy of your Medicare card so we can verify your eligibility and process your claim. Co-payments and deductible amounts are the patient’s responsibility. It is important that you know that Medicare excludes payment for certain things, such as personal comfort items, cosmetic surgery, hearing evaluations, some oral surgery procedures, dental, routine foot care and more.

Medicaid

If you are covered by Medicaid, please bring a copy of your Medicaid card with you. Medicaid has certain items and procedures that are not covered under its program.

HMO/PPO

If you are covered under an HMO (managed care plan) or a PPO, you should find out if there are any special requirements for coverage, such as a second surgical opinion or pre-certification for a certain test or procedure. It is important that you make sure the requirements have been met, or your plan can deny payment, leaving you responsible for payment of those costs. If your physician(s) do not participate in your health care plan, their services may not be covered.

No Insurance

If you do not have insurance, you will meet with a financial counselor from the hospital’s business office to discuss financial arrangements.

Patients who have no insurance coverage will automatically receive a 20% discount at the time of service. This discount is granted prior to any payment arrangements and/or financial assistance you may qualify for. Uninsured patients paying their account in full within 30 days of the date listed on the initial statement date will qualify for an additional 15% discount. This discount will be credited on your account upon receipt of payment in full.

Billing

Your insurance is a contract between you and your insurance company, and you have ultimate responsibility for payment of your hospital bill. However, Culpeper Regional Hospital will ensure that your bills are submitted to your insurance company - and will do anything else necessary to expedite resolution of your claim.

What Kind of Charges Will I See?

To give you some idea of how charges will appear on your hospital bill or statement of charges, you should know that charges fall into two basic categories: basic daily rate for inpatient stays, and special services. The basic daily rate will include such things as your room, meals, nursing care and housekeeping. Special services will include hospital charges for things your physician orders, such as lab tests and x-rays.

What About These Other Bills?

You might receive bills from providers, in addition to your hospital bill. These may be from physicians you did or did not see personally, or for tests or treatments you had while in the hospital. The bills are for professional services provided by those physicians in diagnosing and/or interpreting test results. For instance, you may receive bills for service from pathologists, radiologists, cardiologists and other specialists who are required to send separate bills. If you have questions about those bills, you will need to call the number printed on the statements you receive.
